IPL players, cheerleaders and World Series Hockey Players to come under the ambit of service tax

Most of the people in the world, especially India, are waiting for the IPL season 5 starting next month. It is a treat to the eyes and a great entertainment for every cricket fan in the world. But alas, it is not so for cricket players and cheerleaders participating in the IPL.  This is because they have to pay service tax at the rate of 12% (applicable for all Indian players, foreign players and cheerleaders). The Service Tax authorities are of the opinion that IPL is only an entertainment and not a promotion of the game. These players are already paying tax on endorsements in which they act.  Not only IPL, but also World Series Hockey will come under the service tax ambit.
